Story:
Nicaragua’s volcanic soil, high altitudes, and mild climate make it ideal for producing smooth, complex specialty coffees.
Coffee plays a key role in the rural economy, with small-scale farmers often cultivating beans in shaded, eco-friendly environments. Leading the effort is Aldea Global, based in Jinotega—home to 60% of Nicaragua’s specialty coffee. This farmer association supports members with market access, credit, and sustainable farming programs. In 2002, an Aldea Global farmer won the Cup of Excellence, elevating Nicaragua’s global coffee reputation.
